Uses of Cryoablation in SVT, Pediatrics and AF
Cryoablation is utilized in ablation of AVNRT, accessory pathways, atrial flutter, AF, as well as endocardial and epicardial ablations of VT. Advantages of cryoablation compared to radiofrequency ablation include: lower thrombus formation, lower risk of AV block, painless lesions and potential for "ice mapping". Disadvantages of cryoablation include: longer time required to create lesions, and smaller lesions which may lead to higher recurrence rates.
