With many recent advances in the treatment of GU cancers, the planning committees focused the program on how to translate the latest scientific results into clinical practice, and included multidisciplinary discussion of the latest prevention, screening, and treatment strategies, scientific evidence, and challenges faced by GU cancer researchers and clinicians alike.
2013 Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium Multidisciplinary in content and scope, the 2013 Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium brings together a diverse group of stakeholders involved in the prevention, detection, and treatment of GI cancers. The symposium is a forum for discussion of translational research, novel clinical therapies, and state-of-the-art science in GI oncology to exchange ideas, best practices, and science that will lead to future progress. In addition, the 2013 program features daily special sessions entitled, A Decade in Review, highlighting the triumphs and challenges for each disease site over the past decade.
2012 ASCO's Quality Care Symposium ASCO's inaugural Quality Care Symposium was a specialized meeting with world-class faculty, presenters, and other oncology professionals. The Symposium was an opportunity for physicians and other medical professionals involved in cancer to explore cancer outcomes, quality, and comparative effectiveness research in a multidisciplinary educational format. It provided a forum to promote self-assessment of current practice, improve competency, guide evidence-based improvements in quality cancer care, and stimulate further research to build or strengthen consensus.
Markers In Cancer 2012 Markers in Cancer 2012 featured discussion on the use of biomarkers as a tool for screening, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. This year's theme was "Bridging the Translational Divides" with a focus on practical aspects of biomarker development, future approaches, and optimal applications in translational research. While there is a great deal of research and data in biomarkers presented and published each year, very few studies progress to the final step of patient care. The Meeting planning committee aimed to provide an effective forum to solve this problem.
2012 Breast Cancer Symposium The Breast Cancer Symposium offers a comprehensive education and scientific update: all access learning with the top minds in breast cancer treatment. Highlights include controversy sessions and debates on mTOR inhibitors, sentinel nodes, and local radiation therapy in DCIS. This year also features talks on missed opportunities to secure sound health policy in breast cancer, and ways to address the continuing problem of drug shortages.
